Framlingham Tennis -a Registered Charity

On 16th January 2018, in our 125th year, Framlingham Tennis Tournament became a Registered Charity

What have we done?

We have become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), a relatively new type of Charity structure which is designed specifically for organisations of our size.

You can look us up on the Charity Commission website and our Registered Charity number is 1176689.

Our official purpose is “the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular but not exclusively by the provision of facilities for tennis tournaments” Basically that means we continue to run the second oldest tennis tournament in the country and encourage the improvement of amateur tennis skills for all players!

Why have we become a Charity?

The Committee are a bunch of passionate tennis players who believed that in the 125th year we must celebrate the past and even more importantly secure the future of the tournament in these turbulent times!

To cut a very long story short, we consulted with many of the Players, Patrons, Volunteers and advisory Businesses who kindly sponsor the tournament and together we agreed that becoming a Charity would allow us to:

  • attract & retain more tournament entrants
  • raise a little more money every year to support the running of the tournament
  • encourage our special volunteers to get even more involved
  • create a Governance structure that was supportive of our aims

We are determined to keep this fabulous historic family tournament alive and vibrant!

Has the Tournament changed?

Very little has changed apart from the fact that it is even easier to get involved!

We will still plan, manage and operate the second oldest annual tennis tournament in the UK, as sanctioned by The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

It will continue to be open to all tennis players and is organised on a not for profit basis with all proceeds reinvested in the tournament.

Entrance to the grounds to watch the Framlingham Tennis Tournament is free! It runs for 6 days from the first Monday of every August.

Please get involved!

Tennis Players: Please enter the tournament and join in the fun! There are so many events that there is bound to be one to match your tennis capabilities.

Past Players & Tennis Nuts: Become a Patron of the Tournament and now that we are a Charity please help boost your contribution with Gift Aid

Businesses: Become a Tournament Sponsor, join us for an exclusive Sponsor’s event prior to the Suffolk Championship finals on the Thursday and now that we are a Charity all sponsorship is a tax-deductible expense for your business.

Volunteer: Putting on an event of this scale each year is a big job and we rely on our band of merry volunteers to help make sure it runs smoothly and successfully. Get in touch

Everyone: Please come along to the Tournament and support your friends, family and budding Wimbledon champions!
